It is impossible to say with certainty that any specific extreme weather event occurs as a result of changing climate. This is because of the inherent difference between weather and climate (see Lesson 1). Extreme weather events are a normal part of climate variability. However, as climate changes, extreme weather events may increase in severity or frequency.
